Hurrah, all the new crias have arrived and out of the eight cria born this spring we had 4 boys and 4 girls. I guess there really is a 50-50 chance. We had some real beauties this year. Check out the new cria on Sonic Boom's herd sire page. If your a suri breeder you know Boomer has Condor in his back ground, all those crazy colored greys lead back to him. We have waited a long time to get one of those crazy greys and she is really gorgeous it was worth the wait.

With the show season and shearing behind us we are now anxiously awaiting our spring crias. Of course we have three girls over due already. Everyday we think this has to be the day but another day goes by. Maybe today is the day!
As for our show season, Holly won 1st Place at the Maryland Show & Sale, Christine & Goliath both took 2nd in there classes. We did not fair so well at MAPACA so we won't talk about that but Jed took a 3rd Place at the PAOBA Breeder's Showcase. We showed 2 fleeces at the PAOBA Fleece Show and took a 1st Place on FireWater's fleece and a 2nd on Jazil's. Not a bad show season when I add it all up.
Congratulation again to Sylvia & Earl Kelly on there first cria born since becoming alpaca owners. Their dam Yarabela had a gorgeous boy sired by Captain Morgan's BlackBeard.

Congratulations and thank you to Sylvia & Earl Kelly on their purchase of a four pack of beautiful suri alpacas. Welcome to the alpaca industry!
Once again show season is upon us and we will be taking some of our lastest arrivals outfor the judges to evaluate. I will not be taking nine alpacas to the shows this year. We will be at the Maryland Show and Sale in Westminster, MD, April 18th & 19th. Coming to the Maryland Show will be Briar Rose's Christine (out of our grey herdsire Gustave), Briar Rose's Holly (out of AABC Search Engine, now owned by David & Donna Lawson) and Goliath of Briar Rose (out of our Champion Appaloosa herdsire, Sonic Boom THA)
To the MAPACA Jubilee, I am taking our two true black juveniles. Our female juvie, Briar Rose's Layla (out of our Champion true black dam, Briar Rose's Aurora and our grey herdsire Gustave)and our juvie male Midnight Cowboy By Total Eclipse. Midnight Cowboy is out of two true black parents, AF Empress and AF Total Eclipse.
Layla & Midnight Cowboy will be going to the PAOBA Breeder's Showcase along with Briar Rose's Jed (Jed is out of Sonic Boom THA).
Look for Briar Rose's Grand Slam in the suri herdsire silent auction at the PAOBA show. He just started breeding this past fall and we have gotten four out of four confirmed pregnancies. Check him out on our herdsire page he has done very well in the show ring and we can't wait to see what he throws.
I haven't signed up for the AOBA World Conference yet but I would like to enter some fleece in that show. Hopefully I can still register.

The end of May already? Wow that went by fast!
We were at two more shows since the last entry in the journal. MAPACA & PAOBA and we're happy to say our boys did great! FireWater took a 2nd at the MAPACA Jubilee and 1st Place at PAOBA. Grand Slam was in 1st Place at both shows. Jazil took 2nd at both shows. Our girls didn't fare as well but that's okay we're happy with what we did get.
We've had another birth, Ginger Snaps had a big girl on May 14th, 20.2 lbs. Ouch!
And we would like to congratulate David, Donna & Zachary Lawson for their purchase of AABC Search Engine. SE was one of our favorites for many years, he's a very friendly guy and we're sure the Lawsons will enjoy him.

We've just finished two weekends of showing. We were at the NAAS Show the first weekend in April and just got back from the Maryland Alpaca Show on Sunday. Our girl Cassy was right on time with her first cria born yesterday and it's a girl. Good job Cassy! We have some pictures of Cassy with her new little girl on the Farm Photos page.

Check out Ginger Snaps our Special of the Month for April. Bred to Black, due in May, comes with a breeding and six months free board.
We just added some new pictures to the farm photos. Boys will be boys!

Yesterday was a great training day with Dorothy Hunt. Dorothy actually managed to train seven of us not scare, chase or grab at the crias and still get halters on them. Good job Dorothy! The little ones still need to practice with the lead rope, but I think we are on our way to stress free halter training for life.
March 24, 2008
If you haven't done so already checkout our Alpaca Special of the Month for March, Mabeline. She is specially priced for only one more week. Our April special will be posted on Monday March 31st.
We are excited to have Dorothy Hunt a practitioner of Camelid Dynamics coming to the farm this weekend for a private training session to help us get our youngster ready for show season. So look for some well behaved alpacas from Briar Rose Alpacas this year. We are excited about our entries this year we will be showing our first bred and owned grey suri, Briar Rose's Athena. Athena's half brother Briar Rose's Grand Slam will be traveling the show circuit too. After this spring Grand Slam will probably retire from the show ring and get down to the business of breeding in the fall.

Happy New Year to all! In looking ahead to 2008 we decided it is time for some changes so Briar Rose Alpacas will be launching a new ad campaign beginning at the end of January. Each month we will feature a different alpaca specially priced for that month only. There will be some great deals on bred females, maidens, herdsires and herdsire services. Our first ad will start at the end of January with pricing valid until the end of February after that our new featured alpaca will start the beginning of each month and be valid for that month. Watch for our ads the alpaca you’ve been waiting for might be the special of the month.
In addition to the ads we will be scheduling some farm events and open farm days. Probably late spring and over the summer. We’ll keep you posted.
2007 was a stellar year for crias here. Eleven out of fourteen crias born here in 2007 were females. Must be something in the water. Hope it’s still there.
Most of the newbies will be over 6 months old before the spring shows so we will have a full trailer heading to MAPACA and PAOBA this year.
Watch for these names:
Briar Rose’s Tara
Briar Rose’s Mabeline
Briar Rose’s Athena
Briar Rose’s Rosalita
AF Katrina
Briar Rose’s Lacey
Briar Rose’s Holly
Briar Rose’s Nicholas
Nicholas and Holly are our December babies and won’t be showing this spring but returning to the ring will be our True Black Jr. herdsires Briar Rose’s Grand Slam and our brown Jr herdsire AF Jazil.
Check out new pictures on Farm Photo page.
Hope you all have a Happy, Healthy and Properous new year!

Today Grand Slam and Jazil joined in for Furry Friends Day at Stolfus Feed & Supply in Gap, PA. This was Jazil's first outing, though a little timid at the start he was a real trooper and didn't mind all the attention. He and Grand Slam have perfected their jump into the van.

Farm News: We will be participating in this year's Oxford Fair in Oxford, PA. This is the Fair's first year to try out a small scale alpaca show. We'd love your support, come and see us at the Fair , August 30th - Sept 3rd. Show day is Saturday Sept 1st. Alpacas will be on display all five days of the Fair.
We would also like to thank Oxford Feed & Lumber for supplying portable pens for the alpaca exhibitors at the Fair.
Hot lazy summer days are here. Our alpacas are keeping cool with fans all over the barn, sprinklers, swimming pools and of course their favorite, Lemon-Lime Gatorade.
The last of the spring crias has arrived, whew! Now we can take a break until September.
June 28,2007
We'd like to congratulate PJ Jones of Jester Farm, Jackie & Joe Cristini of Siti Slicker Suris and Wendy Daly, all have new spring crias out of our herdsire Wichita. Hope we can meet in the Get of Sire Ring next Spring.
We have had a new cria also, Grace has a new little girl out of our herdsire Search Engine. She's a beauty with coverage from head to toe.
Barn talk: Flies, flies and more flies! What's a barn keeper to do? This year it seems the barrage of flies has come earlier than usual. Fly Traps, Sticky Fly Strips, Electric Bug Zapper and lime. They still keep coming.
May 19, 2007
Another shearing day has come and gone. A huge thanks to everyone who helped out. We are glad that is behind us for another year. Now we are ready for the summer heat, buckets of Gatorade, fans and sprinklers. Bring on the heat!
We wrapped up our Spring Show season at the PAOBA Breeders Showcase last weekend in York, PA. We were lucky enough to bring home a 1st Place, 2nd Place two 3rd Place and a 4th Place.

Thank you and congratulations to the Obanions for their purchase of Murphy and Spirit. Murphy and Spirit arrived at their new home May 1st. I'm sure they are going to love their new residence and family.
May 1st was a big day here. We had the arrival of our first Spring cria born to Moonshine. Moonshine is a first time mom and has taken to her new task as nurturing mother like a pro.
Take a look at our farm photos to see Moonshine and her new cria. It's a girl!
February 20, 2007
Briar Rose Alpacas would like to thank "After the Bell" for their visit with the alpacas today. Plato, Grand Slam, Spirit and Kristin Lynn say thanks for filling our bellies and Murphy says thanks for finally giving me a name. Check out the farm photos!
PS Search Engine and Torbiago apologize for their little tiff which sent some spit flying.

Congratulations and thank you to Ken & Kim Battin of Indian Run Alpacas, the new owners of our Three Amigos Package. Ken & Kim purchased our last three huacayas.
Our crias this fall were gorgeous, they will start appearing on the sales list as soon as I get out there with the camera. We had one BB female, one BB male, one TB male and one white male. There are a few pictures of them on the farm photos. Cute!
December 8, 2006
Hurrah, Yesterday we were connected to high speed internet, after being on dial-up for the last seven months. Now I can get back to updating my farm photos. Take a look, finally different summer pictures just to warm us up and our new crop of fall crias, three males and one female.
The weather is very cold and we are back to heated water buckets and I regretfully had to pack my hoses away for the winter.
We are now raising only suris but we do have a few male huacayas to sell we are offering all three of them in a package at a remarkable price. Check out our package "3 Amigos"
July 14, 2006
The heat of summer has arrived and the water buckets are now filled with Lemon-lime gatorade. The Gatorade flavor preferred by Briar Rose Alpacas! Fluoresent green lips are abundant here as the alpacas are constantly sipping the refreshing drink.(We also offer plain drinking water but those buckets never empty as quickly as the Gatorade filled buckets.) The fans are running full force in the barn and the sprinklers are getting a real workout in the field. The alpacas are enjoying the lazy days of summer.
My bags of fleece are still waiting for me to skirt and decide which will be show fleeces and which will be shipped directly to the mill for processing. I'd better get on that soon.
The spring crias are all growing like the weeds and we are enjoying the break from baby watching for a few months. The show registrations are starting to come in, already it is time to start think about what shows we will be attending this fall.
June 21, 2006
Finally a sigh of relief. Shearing is over and our last spring cria has made it's arrival. One of the first Captain Morgan grandcrias, we are happy to announce the birth of a little girl out of Captain Morgan's Serena X SBS Pilgrim. A beautiful fawn cria with luster, luster and more luster.
Now we can turn our concentration to skirting fleeces and keeping our alpacas cool this summer. The sprinkler is always a hit and they love the lemon lime gatorade we add to their water buckets.

I'd like to thank P.J. Jones for her purchase of Briar Rose's Scarlet at the Futurity Auction
Thank you to Joan Bini the new owner of Briar Rose's Latidah.
We wish both PJ and Joan the best of luck. We appreciate your business and the new friends we make by being a part of the alpaca industry.
Briar Rose Alpacas has moved! We recently purchased a new property in New London, PA. Only a few miles from our old property, we are making this the longest move in history. We've almost made the move complete but there is still much work to do. We have been putting fences up in the dark this week. I'm sure we will still be tweaking the set up for the next few months until everything is flowing smoothly.
We made it to a few shows this year but because of the move we only took two alpacas, Gustave & Sonic Boom (Boomer) to two shows. We were very happy with the results. Gus took a 2nd at the Jubilee and 1st at PAOBA. Boomer took the blue and Championship at the PAOBA show. Definitely worth the trip!
Check out the farm photos. I've finally taken the snow storm pictures off.
